we were passing by one of the many barangays of binangonan in the jeepney's route. it was a smooth ride and we were lucky to find a jeep with no loud music playing in it. i got my new samsung SGH-E250 celphone to play some music...i need to take some of the boredom away.
it was when the jeep came to an abrupt stop and made a sudden swerve did the cause of the diversion caught my attention. i saw a man picking up spilled rice (bigas) near the middle of the lane our jeep was in. i didn't feel mad, nor did i become irritated. i felt as though i am a very stupid, ignorant material girl.
here i am, sitting comfortably inside a jeepney, with earphones on my ears playing pop music from my new celphone. yet there's a man, trying to gather as much rice as he could for his family. i felt so small as i remembered the times i wasted food.
we are now living in a material world. because of modernization, technology, and fast-growing and evolving "values", we ignore the simple things in life. we also tend to focus on the latest gadgets and stuff just to be "in" even if we don't need them.
unbeknownst to many, there inumerable people working hard just to earn a living or eat a single meal in a day. funny how the rest of the world "doesn't know" that.
i turned around and saw my co-passengers staring out the window as if nothing happened. i sat quietly for the rest of the ride.
